President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with foreign ambassadors resident in and accredited to Lithuania, to discuss the domestic and foreign policy of Lithuania. This traditional meeting is already the third such meeting during the President’s term of office. President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Russian Federation, Renatas Norkus. According to the President, Russia's role is significant both regionally and globally and, therefore, the new ambassador will have very responsible duties representing Lithuania in this country. President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark on the 40th anniversary of her reign. On the occasion of the Day of Freedom Defenders, President Dalia Grybauskaitė awarded Commemorative Medals of 13th January to Lithuanians who in January-September 1991 actively defended Lithuania's freedom and independence, safeguarded peace and health of the people. According to the President, Vaclav Havel was a great European figure whose courage, moral values and idealism have changed Europe.
